Who is TIA?
Transformation In Arts (TIA) is a Portland-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to mentor underserved youth through cultural arts and enrichment programs. TIA envisions youth of diverse backgrounds empowered with enriching practices they will use for the rest of their lives. TIA's team includes social workers, teachers, artists, community leaders, youth and families.

What does TIA do?
Experienced TIA staff train local and international artists to interact with and mentor vulnerable youth. Engaging youth in expressive movement and rhythm-focused arts builds their confidence and motivation, while fostering supportive connections with an adult. TIA delivers these needed enrichment programs through partnerships with schools, community centers, and social service providers, thus creating a bridge between the arts community and underserved youth. Programs are offered both during and after school, and complement existing state curriculum standards whenever applicable.

How do TIA programs help youth?
TIA has designed cultural arts and mentoring programs that help youth develop a sense of community and equip them with the tools they need to succeed in life. While challenging youth to practice effective social skills, TIA's programs provide a safe environment for self-discovery, collaboration and expression. Development of these skills not only builds resiliency, preparing youth for successful adulthood, but it also helps build stronger communities by mitigating youth involvement in truancy, drug use and violence.
